{"id":4135,"date":"2012-05-25T14:54:06","date_gmt":"2012-05-25T14:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/?page_id=4135"},"modified":"2020-09-25T18:04:51","modified_gmt":"2020-09-25T17:04:51","slug":"cellist","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/bio\/cellist\/","title":{"rendered":"Cellist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cellist Kenneth Woods is fast becoming recognized as a\u00a0musician of rare versatility, equally at home as conductor, recitalist,\u00a0chamber musician and soloist.<\/p>\n<p>A founding member of the NEA Rural Residency Grant winning Taliesin\u00a0Trio, he has concertized throughout the US and Canada, and has also\u00a0been heard as soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe and New\u00a0Zealand. He has also been the cellist of the Masala String Quartet from\u00a01993-1999. He was artist-in-residence, member of the Eastern Piano Trio\u00a0while serving as director of strings and chamber music at Eastern Oregon University from 1999-2002. Since 2008, he has been the\u00a0\u00a0cellist of the string trio Ensemble Epomeo, with whom he records and concertizes regularly. The Ensemble&#8217;s debut CD, featuring world-premiere recordings of the string trios of Hans Gal paired with those of Hans Krasa, was released in 2012 on Avie Records to international acclaim, selected as a Gramophone Critic&#8217;s Choice, Disc of the Month on MusicWeb and hailed by The Strad as a &#8220;thought provoking disc.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Epomeo-Play-Krasa-and-Gal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5304\" src=\"http:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Epomeo-Play-Krasa-and-Gal-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Epomeo Play Krasa and Gal\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Epomeo-Play-Krasa-and-Gal-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Epomeo-Play-Krasa-and-Gal-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Epomeo-Play-Krasa-and-Gal.jpg 672w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Concerto appearances include the Aspen Music Festival, the Grande\u00a0Ronde Symphony, Cambridge Symphony, \u00a0Gonzaga Symphony, Boston\u00a0Chamber Orchestra, Lancashire Chamber Orchestra, Blue Mountain\u00a0Festival Chamber Orchestra, Oregon East Symphony, and the Madison\u00a0Philomusica. He has been heard in radio broadcasts on NPR and the CBC,\u00a0and recorded for Vienna Modern Masters.<\/p>\n<p>Festival appearances include the Festival at Sandpoint, Great Lakes\u00a0Chamber Festival, Lucerne Festival in Switzerland, Schloss Weinberg\u00a0Festival in Austria, Chautauqua Institute, Domaine Forget Festival in\u00a0Canada, Wallowa Lake Chamber Music Festival and the International\u00a0Festival Institute at Round Top. In 2013, he appears as cellist at the Newburyport and Two Rivers festivals, and with Ensemble Epomeo, will be artist in residence at the Scotia Festival of Music in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Intensely committed to new music, Mr. Woods has collaborated with such\u00a0composers as Bruce Adolphe, Gerhard Samuel, John Corigliano, Oliver\u00a0Knussen, and Peter Lieberson, and has given numerous premieres. As a\u00a0cellist he has been recipient of the Aspen Fellowship, and is the only\u00a0person to have received the Dale Gilbert Award, given annually to the\u00a0\u201cOutstanding String Performer in the University of Wisconsin-Madison\u00a0School of Music\u201d in consecutive years.
