{"id":2239,"date":"2011-01-05T01:06:31","date_gmt":"2011-01-05T00:06:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/?p=2239"},"modified":"2011-01-10T00:37:31","modified_gmt":"2011-01-09T23:37:31","slug":"2010-repertoire-report-stephen-hough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/2011\/01\/05\/2010-repertoire-report-stephen-hough\/","title":{"rendered":"2010 Repertoire Report: Stephen Hough"},"content":{"rendered":"<table cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\">Lindsay, a piano teacher from Portland, Oregon, says we&#8217;ve spent too much time on conductors in the Repertoire Reports, so she&#8217;s taken the initiative in putting together one for 2010 for <a href=\"www.stephenhough.com\">Stephen Hough<\/a> based on the listings on his website.<span style=\"font-size: 10.8333px;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/2009\/12\/28\/2009-repertoire-report-stephen-hough\/\">As with 2009<\/a>, it&#8217;s not an epic list of works, <a href=\"http:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/2010\/12\/30\/new-years-wish-for-2011-conductors-who-show-up-for-work\/\">but having just written about the dangers of burn out from conductors and soloists who try to do too much,<\/a> I think we can all learn from Stephen&#8217;s exempt. Few pianists carry more than 20 concerti over their whole career, and <em>very<\/em> few offer more than four or five in a season, so this list is actually quite big by concerto-soloist standards.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining non-concerto repertoire slots into two recital programs:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recital Program 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bach\/Cortot\/Hough: Toccata &amp; Fugue in D minor<\/p>\n<p>Faur\u00e9: Nocturne No. 6, Op. 63<\/p>\n<p>Faur\u00e9: Impromptu No. 5, Op. 102<\/p>\n<p>Faur\u00e9: Barcarolle No. 5, Op. 66<\/p>\n<p>Franck: Prelude, Chorale and Fugue<\/p>\n<p>Chopin: Nocturne in B Major, Op. 62, No. 1<\/p>\n<p>Chopin: Sonata in B minor, Op. 58<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recital Program 2-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Beethoven: Sonata op. 27 no. 2 (Moonlight)<\/p>\n<p>Janacek: Sonata 1. X. 1905<\/p>\n<p>Scriabin: Sonata no. 4<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>Scriabin Sonata no. 5<\/p>\n<p>Liszt: Sonata in B minor<\/p>\n<p>The first program is basically the same as the one he was offering in 2009, while program 2 is new. Also carried over from 2009 are the three Tchaikovsky concerti, the Rachmaninov Rhapsody, the Mendelssohn Concerto and Mozart K467. That means the Brahms, Grieg and Saint-Saens are coming back into his rep after a break, or are new.<\/p>\n<p>Other pianists- how does Stephen&#8217;s range of rep in 2010 compare to yours? Stephen, if you&#8217;re out there, your schedule seems so well structured and sane, like it has all been planned years in advance: one can only wonder how you manage it in such a chaotic business.
