London-based Australian pianist Piers Lane<\/strong> has a flourishing international career which has taken him to more than forty countries. Following the success of his <\/span>New York<\/span> d\u00e9but at <\/span>Lincoln<\/span> <\/span>Center<\/span> in <\/span>2004 Piers Lane<\/strong><\/span> <\/span><\/strong>was re-invited to <\/span>Lincoln<\/span> <\/span>Center<\/span> in spring 2006, when he played the mighty Bliss concerto with the American Symphony Orchestra and gave a solo recital; he also took part in chamber music concerts at <\/span>New York<\/span>‘s legendary Bargemusic. Recent and forthcoming European highlights include concerto appearances with the City of <\/span>Birmingham Symphony<\/span>; London Philharmonic; Hall\u00e9 and <\/span>Ulster<\/span> orchestras; a solo recital at Symphony Hall Birmingham for the BBC and a three concert series entitled Metamorphoses <\/em>at Wigmore Hall. Festival appearances include Bard in <\/span>New York<\/span> <\/span>State<\/span>; Elverum and <\/span>Trondheim<\/span> in <\/span>Norway<\/span>; Llandeilo and Petworth in the <\/span>UK<\/span>; Como Autumn Music in\u00a0<\/span>Italy<\/span>; The Ruhr and Schloss Vor Husum in <\/span>Germany<\/span>; La Roque d’Anth\u00e9ron and Paris Chopin in <\/span>France<\/span> and Valledemossa Chopin in <\/span>Mallorca<\/span>.<\/span>

\nFive times soloist at the BBC Proms in <\/span>London<\/span>‘s Royal Albert Hall,\u00a0<\/span>Piers Lane<\/span><\/strong>‘s <\/span><\/strong>concerto repertoire exceeds 75 works. He has played with all the ABC and BBC orchestras, the <\/span>Aarhus<\/span>, City of <\/span>Birmingham<\/span>, <\/span>Bournemouth<\/span>, Gothenburg & New Zealand Symphony Orchestras; Hall\u00e9; Philharmonia; Kanazawa Ensemble and City of <\/span>London Sinfonia<\/span> and the <\/span>London<\/span>,\u00a0Royal Liverpool & Royal Philharmonic Orchestras among others.\u00a0Leading conductors with whom he has worked\u00a0include Andrey Boreyko, Sir Andrew Davis, Richard Hickox,\u00a0Andrew Litton, Sir Charles Mackerras, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Maxim Shostakovich, Vassily Sinaisky and Yan Pascal Tortelier. <\/span>

\nPiers Lane\u2019s<\/span><\/strong> extensive discography includes, on the Hyperion label, much admired recordings of rare Romantic Concertos, <\/em>the complete Etudes <\/em>and Preludes <\/em>by Scriabin and transcriptions of Bach and Strauss, along with complete collections\u00a0of Concert Etudes<\/em> by Saint-Saens, Moscheles and Henselt, and transcriptions\u00a0by Grainger. In 2005 Hyperion released the original version of the Delius Concerto, <\/em>coupled with <\/span>Ireland<\/span>‘s Concerto <\/em>and Legend, <\/em>as well as Stanford’s Piano Quintet <\/em>with the Vanburgh Quartet. In <\/span>2006 Piers Lane<\/strong><\/span> <\/span><\/strong>recorded concertos by Alnaes and Sinding with the Bergen Philharmonic, conducted by Andrew Litton and songs by Delius with soprano Yvonne Kenny. He has also recorded for the BMG, Classics for Pleasure, Decca, EMI Eminence, Lyrita and Unicorn-Khanchana labels.<\/span>
\nFor\u00a0BBC Radio 3,\u00a0Piers Lane\u00a0<\/strong>wrote and presented the popular 54-part series The Piano<\/em> and regularly presented BBC Legends<\/em>. In 1994 he was made an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music, where he has been a professor of piano since 1989. <\/span>
