Born in Seoul in 1982, So-Ock Kim moved to London at the age of three. At 15, she was the youngest ever winner of the gold medal in the prestigious Shell\/LSO Competition playing the Tchaikovsky concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra in the Barbican Hall.\u00a0At 19, So-Ock was selected for the Young Concert Artists Trust. Her teachers have included Itzhak Rashkovsky, Felix Andrievsky and since 1994, David Takeno.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

So-Ock has given numerous critically acclaimed performances around the world and at the Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Abroad she has comprehensively toured throughout Asia, Europe and the US, performing concertos and recitals in the various international music festivals, such as Schleswig Holstein, Ravinia and Aldeburgh Proms. Most recently she performed the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto<\/em> in Warsaw Philharmonic Hall during the Beethoven Easter Festival. Many of her performances have been broadcast on radio and television worldwide, including the BBC, ABC, Radio France, RAI, KBS and Classic FM.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

During the 2003\/04 season So-Ock returned to Symphony Hall, Barbican Hall and performed the Brahms Violin Concerto<\/em> in her debut concert with the Philharmonia Orchestra.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Over the last year So-Ock\u2019s engagements have included a return visit to Wigmore Hall and several performances of the Tchaikovsky Concerto<\/em> in Korea and with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London at the Cadogan Hall. She also appeared as soloist in the Penderecki Festival, Krakow, made her debut in the Montpelier Festival with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and in Sweden with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra. Her first recordings on Sony\/BMG are due for release in 2007. Future plans include return visits to the Montpelier Festival and Wigmore Hall, concerts with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and a performance of Penderecki\u2019s Violin Concerto No.2<\/em> with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra.<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

So-Ock plays a 1666 Antonius Stradivarius kindly loaned to her by an anonymous donor.<\/font><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
