We also talked about Gal&#8217;s distinctive sense of wit- one of the 20th c.&#8217; s few musical humorists whose wit is not particularly tinged with anger, bitterness or sarcasm. Finally, we talked about the genesis of our new Mahler disc on Somm, and how I came to work with three such stunning soloists. To any human foghorns offended by my remark about dodgy contraltos, I apologize. Contralto is my favorite voice type, so I&#8217;m bound to get a little passionate about its misuse.
