The CD will be internationally distributed by Naxos.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www%2Ckyoshinan.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Kyo-Shin-An Arts<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>(KSA) is an innovative, NYC-based organization dedicated to the integration of Japanese instruments \u2013 specifically shakuhachi, koto and shamisen \u2013 into Western classical music.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyoraku.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">James Nyoraku Schlefer<\/a><\/strong>, Artistic Director. We work in partnership with composers and ensembles to commission, develop and produce new works and concerts that include these remarkable instruments.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www%2Corchestraoftheswan.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The Orchestra of the Swan<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>(OOTS) is a wonderful British chamber orchestra based in Stratford-Upon Avon, UK. It is adventurous, imaginative and, with the visionary leadership of its Artistic Director\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orchestraoftheswan.org\/artistic-director\/\" target=\"_blank\">David Curtis<\/a><\/strong>, partnering with KSA to bring some really beautiful new music to life. The collaboration premiered on May 28, 2011, on OOTS\u2019 lovely Spring Sounds Festival. Commissions are already in place for Spring Sounds 2012 and 2013, and we\u2019re not stopping!<\/p>\n<p>The content for\u00a0<em>Spring Sounds, Spring Seas<\/em>\u00a0comes directly from our first concert program, which was the world\u2019s first chamber orchestra concert featuring a full program of music with shakuhachi and koto. We recorded in the Stratford Civic Hall with the preeminent Gary Cole of Regent Records. The title honors both the Spring Sounds Festival and the famous Japanese duo for shakuhachi and koto,<em>Haru No Umi<\/em>, written by the renowned koto player Michiyo Miyagi in 1929. This duo, heard (and seen) on the disc in\u00a0an orchestral arrangement as\u00a0<em>Haru No Umi Redux<\/em>, translates as \u201cThe Sea in Spring\u201d. Ergo \u2013 the title.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is on the disc?<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nPerformers: The Orchestra of the Swan, shakuhachi Grand Master\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyoraku.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">James Nyoraku Schlefer\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>and koto Master\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yumikuro.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yumi Kurosawa<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf\u00a0<em>Haru No Umi Redux<\/em>, famous as a duo in Japan, where it is traditionally heard on New Year\u2019s, this version offers an evocative string accompaniment by Mr. Schlefer, conducted by OOTS Principal Guest Conductor\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kenneth Woods<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf\u00a0<em>Concerto for Shakuhachi, Strings, Harp and Percussion<\/em>, by James Nyoraku Schlefer and conducted by Kenneth Woods. A rhythmic, exciting piece in three movements, ranging from the calm of Zen to the high energy of Rock and Roll.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf<em>\u00a0Koto Concerto: Genji<\/em>, a remarkably romantic and operatic work in five short movements by the accomplished\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.daronhagen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Daron Hagen<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a Kyo-Shin-An Arts and Meet the Composer Commission, conducted by OOTS\u2019 artistic director\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orchestraoftheswan.org\/artistic-director\/\" target=\"_blank\">David Curtis<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What else is on this cool disc?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Enhanced content. The label for\u00a0<em>Spring Sounds, Spring Seas<\/em>\u00a0is PARMA Recordings and the disc will be released on their Navona Records imprint.
