The ending came too soon.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4420\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Deborah-Pritchard.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4420\" class=\" wp-image-4420 \" title=\"Deborah Pritchard\" src=\"http:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Deborah-Pritchard.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Deborah-Pritchard.png 300w, https:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Deborah-Pritchard-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4420\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Composer Deborah Pritchard<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The other premiere was John McCabe\u2019s \u2018Trumpet Concerto, La Primavera\u2019, jazzily lyrical (the slow movement has the soloist adopting Miles Davis\u2019s flugelhorn), crystally-clear brittle, and featuring extensive duetting between soloist and bongo-rich percussion (Jan Bradley, un-named in the programme, but what a star he is). Robert Saxton\u2019s \u2018Psalm &#8212; A Song of Ascents\u2019 draws its inspiration from biblical references to the trumpet in its various guises, so we certainly get clear-cut fanfaring landmarks amid the work\u2019s tricksy metres.
