While I was chatting away to Jorja about trains as part of the rhythms of small town life, Michael was relatively quiet. To my mild relief, the train was gone pretty quickly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPhew, I was expecting that to take much longer,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNinety-eight cars,\u201d said Michael. Aha, that was why he\u2019d been a little quiet, he was counting!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOkay,\u201d I ventured, \u201chere\u2019s a trivia question- what is the best Op 98 ever\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Being the end of the day, neither of us had too many great ideas, but here are some notable Op 98s<\/p>\n<p>Beethoven- Song Cycle \u201cTo the Immortal Beloved\u201d (&#8220;An die ferne Geliebte&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>Brahms- Symphony no. 4 in E minor<\/p>\n<p>Shostakovich- Five Romances on Poems of Dolmatovsky<\/p>\n<p>Dvorak Suite in A Major for Piano<\/p>\n<p>Prokofiev- Unpublished Sketches for the Soviet National Anthem<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So, this is an easy one- Brahms a decisive winner, with Beethoven a clear, if deeply moving,\u00a02<sup>nd<\/sup>\u2026.
