“Woods’ Schumann is a revelation: transparent, graceful, melancholy, romantic<\/span><\/p>\n

At the beginning of this month we were blessed to hear an almost vexingly mellow\u00a0Schumann\u00a0<\/a>byYannick N\u00e9zet-S\u00e9guin<\/a>. Now, the exemplary finale of another fascinating Schumann recording follows that up. The recording is by the British\u00a0Orchestra of the Swan<\/a>\u00a0and is conducted by the thoroughly unconventional\u00a0Kenneth Woods<\/a>. His\u00a0Schumann\u00a0<\/a>is a revelation: transparent, graceful, melancholy, exquisitely romantic. He’s complemented by the symphonic opus of the Viennese expressionist\u00a0Hans G\u00e1l<\/a>… \u00a0This album marks the finale of a four-album complete recording of\u00a0Schumann<\/a>‘s und G\u00e1l’s symphonies. The final result may be the most compelling reawakening of Schumann in the last decades – and simultaneously a long-overdue vindication of Hans G\u00e1l.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
