\nThis arrangement uses the same forces as Erwin Stein’s reduced orchestration of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony (albeit with more wind doublings). There is also a version available for the same slightly larger forces used by Klaus Simon in his reduction:\u00a0fl\/ob\/cl\/bn\/hn\/perc\/harm\/pno\/sop\/strings 6.5.4.4.2<\/i><\/p>\n

This work is an arrangement of the second movement of Schubert’s String Quartet in D minor for salon orchestra, which elides seamlessly into Schubert’s Lied Der Tod und das M\u00e4dchen, from which the string quartet also takes its name.<\/p>\n
