This became apparent last year, during SOMM&#8217;s sessions at the Henry Wood Hall with the Royal Philharmonic and Ken Woods. To quote Siva Oke,\u00a0Recording Producer\u00a0and Director of SOMM Recordings:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>We all listened with admiration to Ms Tryon&#8217;s astonishing technical command, her unwavering attention to detail and her ability to focus single-mindedly on the many and varying demands an artist normally faces during orchestral recording. Her relaxed, smiling presence transformed this from sheer hard work to a thrilling experience in which she was happily joined by her fellow artists and recording crew&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Nothing is pressured or exaggerated, everything falls naturally into place&#8230;Kenneth Woods provides a sterling partnership and Somm\u2019s sound and balance are as natural as the performances<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/2015\/03\/12\/cd-review-gramophone-magazine-on-franck-falla-and-turina-concertante-works-for-piano-with-kw-valerie-tryon-and-the-royal-philharmonic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bryce Morrison, Gramophone Magazine<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c..loving and attentive performances\u2026atmosphere that could be cut with a butter knife. Woods draws the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra into a rapt stillness\u2026<br \/>\n<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/kennethwoods.net\/blog1\/2013\/10\/01\/cd-review-bbc-music-magazine-on-franck-and-falla-music-for-piano-and-orchestra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jessica Duchen- BBC Music Magazine<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWoods and the RPO are equally responsive, and the Iberian heat and colour of the piece are well projected. The sound is most agreeable \u2013 it\u2019s warm and detailed \u2013 and the balance between soloist and orchestra is perfectly judged\u2026This is a reading of rare equilibrium \u2013 now inward, now extrovert \u2013 and it\u2019s all bound together by an unforced, singing lyricism that\u2019s just magical. The RPO are suitably emphatic and well-blended in the nicely scaled tuttis and Woods ensures momentum never flags. So, not a self-aggrandising or headline-grabbing performance, just an effortlessly musical one\u2026\u00a0. Falla\u2019s sultry\u00a0Nights in the Gardens of Spain\u00a0has its share of fine interpreters \u2013 Alicia de Larrocha, for instance \u2013 but Tryon and Woods are persuasive too. There\u2019s plenty of passion and point, and the work\u2019s virtuosic passages hold no terrors for this pianist. Tryon\u2019s phrasing and rhythms are idiomatic and it seems the brooding band is circling her in a mesmeric dance.
