Harnoncourt, a musician who has been at the forefront of the Early Music
revolution for the last 50 years.

Haydn Trumpet Concerto
Stephen Johnson takes the trumpet concerto as his subject, journeying
from the baroque with a concerto by Telemann to Haydn's ground breaking
masterpiece. Phillipe Schartz is the soloist who at one point even
ventures to play an original keyed bugle - the instrument that inspired
Haydn to put pen to paper.

A rare UK performance at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire by
Algerian-born King of Rai, Khaled, recorded especially for the
programme.

Shipton meets his former sidemen, Jesse Stone, Truck Parham and Franz
Jackson, and further explores Hines' keyboard legacy with the help of
British pianist Martin Litton.
Hines himself recalls his great days
at the Grand Terrace Club in Chicago, the birth of bebop, and his reunion
with Louis Armstrong in the globetrotting All Stars.

Live from the Met. - Act One
Aida, Act I
The Ethiopian slave Aida is in love with the
Egyptian warrior Radames. He loves her too, which angers the Egyptian
princess Amneris who wants him for herself. Aida is hiding the fact that
she is the King of Ethiopia's daughter, so when her father is taken
prisoner by the Egyptians she has to make a choice of loyalty to him or
Radames.
Aida is on the surface one of Verdi's grandest operas, but
is also an intimate drama of love versus duty. Andrea Gruber and Johan
Botha play the doomed lovers, with James Conlon
conducting.
