Easily the quote of the week:
8. My disappointment on your opinion on Rutter
I have a bone to pick with you. After practicing the glockenspiel part for the Rutter Requiem so much and then committing the part to memory so I could play, phrase and watch, I was horrified to hear you call it “elevator music”. After so long in the UK I was disheartened to hear you call it that. By now I’d hoped that you would realise that we call it a “lift” here
Hello,
I discovered this blog today by accident and wanted to post a note. I am a classical music super nerd with similar tastes and obsessions in recordings, composers and conductors. It is great to see that a fellow nerd has had the guts and the talent to live the dream of being a real conductor. I look forward to following your blog, and listening to your recordings.
Hi Jason- Welcome aboard. Glad you enjoyed the first visit and hope you’ll be back often. Good to hear you sticking up for Klemperer, too!
john rutter is my favourite composer. not everybody has to be beethoven, he is his own type of composer and composes what he wants and likes. I dont think his music is elevator music.
Dear Lorena
Your comment has made my day. Good for you sticking up for music you love! Makes me want to go spend some time with it and figure out what I’m missing. I wish more people would have the nerve to do the same.
Laughed out loud.
