Ken, I’ve just finished listening to the rather wonderful Sawyers 3, and it struck me that this guy might be right up your street; how about commissioning a 6th symphony (if not already in the pipeline) from him? As well as the MIDI realisations available on his site, an inaugural CD, featuring his 3rd Symphony, was released over the summer, and I’ve recently heard from the horse’s mouth that a recording of Elcock 5 is in the can! There are definite shades of Brian (just compare its opening gambit with that of the latter’s 8th!) and Simpson, as well as professed hero Pettersson, in no.3, but there’s plenty of Elcock besides.

I’ve listened with a lot of pleasure to Steve Elcock’s 3rd Symphony several times. He’s a major talent! Glad you’re on to him. We are, too!
I’m sure he’d be delighted to hear that! Can I tell him? Can I?! Can I?!! Or does he know already…?
We’re in touch, so I think he knows how impressed we are with the 3rd, but I’m hoping to have a beer with him next week. Do tell him, though!
Funnily enough, he was in my neck of the woods (West Yorkshire) a few weeks ago and invited me for a coffee…an offer which, highly regrettably, I was unable to take him up on. For now I’ll work on the assumption that your “less-caffeine-more-alcohol” rendezvous will take place – I’m sure your praise will sound much better coming direct from you, unused as I still am to hanging out with big(ger)-name composers (Simon Cummings, of 5:4 sort-of-fame, being the one exception to date)!
While we’re at it, how about a 4th symphony from Malcolm Lipkin? His first three are, IMHO, wonderful, but hardly appear to be on anyone’s radar.
