Description

Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder transcribed and arranged for bass or contralto. Keys are a minor third below the original, with the orchestra adjusted where this has created issues of range and register.

Premiered at the 2023 Colorado MahlerFest. “Andreassen followed intermission with a shattering performance of the Kindertotenlieder, whose grim texts on the death of children experienced by the poet Friedrich Rückert were given haunting settings by Mahler. Andreassen’s deep and resonant bass was the ideal instrument. ” Kelly Dean Hansen, Journal of the New York Mahler Society
