This work is an arrangement of the second movement of Schubert’s String Quartet in D minor for salon orchestra, which elides seamlessly into Schubert’s Lied Der Tod und das Mädchen, from which the string quartet also takes its name.
Available on CD and streaming from Nimbus Records in a performance by April Fredrick and the English Symphony Orchestra
